This does what I wanted it to do. It lets me know what direction the wind is coming from and how fierce the wind is.

I had one of these that lasted for almost a year and a half, through a hurricane and a brutal Texas summer; the only reason I wanted to replace it is because that Texas sun managed to fade it to peach in that time and I like the bright orange, lol. I couldn't remember for sure where I got it and ended up buying one on another site that turned out to be vinyl instead of the ripstop nylon; the vinyl one was much stiffer and 3 days after I put it up outside, we had some 20mph wind and the vinyl one flew away. These ripstop ones are definitely the way to go. The wide mouth ring at the top is very sturdy and keeps the sock open, to catch every little breeze and that large opening also reduces the amount of damage that the wind does over time. Narrow openings take a worse beating, so those kinds of windsocks don't last as long. I always have two windsocks mounted by the end of my driveway; this orange airport sock and the other one could be anything, depending on what currently makes me smile. The orange airport one is important, because it is how I direct visitors or deliveries to the correct driveway. Lots of people have cute ones like my other one, but few have an airport sock, so I'm easy to pick out of the crowd. So glad I finally figured out that Walmart was the site that sells this, the best windsock; I'm going to buy another couple of them to keep in reserve, just in case. Yes, I like it that much.
