Good stereo recorder for home use

Bought the unit at $123 - other quality "mono" recording units slightly cheaper, might as well go with the built in stereo mic unit. No issues with excessive hiss/background noise (Note: you have to set proper record level settings & set appropriate filtering). However, like other units with built in mics, you should not touch the unit when recording, otherwise will pick-up the "noise". With this unit, you definitely need to read the manual to get the best out of it. Good for office type recordings, school productions, etc. If you are looking to record the next best song/album, use as a recording device for DSLR videos (on board record systems are not the best), video projects, you should go with a higher end unit (also, will cost you > 200% of this cost of thi sunit).

Quality Recorder

I am not a musician. The LS-12 has a solid, quality build feeling in the hand. It is easy to understand the menus and the screen is easy on the eyes. To my ears, the sound play back thru the rear on board speaker is excellently clear. Although this is touted as a recorder for musicians, I think it works excellently as a voice recorder and when capturing the sounds of birds and other wildlife.

Beyond my expectation

I ordered this unit because of its size to replace the one which got misplaced as it was too tiny, plus the promise of a much better sound, and I got more than I bargained for. I recorded music from a cd player using the microphone and the sound is terrific sans pcm. Ambient noise was less audible compared to my previous unit. Booming sound is practically absent when doing piano recording. I just like the idea of transferring files from one folder to another. To those who like to tune their pianos by themselves, you can use the tuning feature of this unit. After knowing some of the unit's nice features, I realized I should have ordered the LS-14! Anyway, if doing only occasional recordings, this unit is highly recommended.
