Icon English Vocabulary Success is a series of three books, each of which are intended for you to use when learning English. What's great about our book is that it can be used either with a teacher in a classroom setting or independently on your own time.

Vocabulary is one of the most vital aspects of learning a language. Without a rich vocabulary, how do you express the things you want to say? Furthermore, many students will find that having a vast lexicon can be a huge help when taking exams or writing essays for school. And, though some words may not be used in every day conversations, less common words are still important to learn for certain assignments or standardized tests. Language is varied and complex. Your vocabulary should be that way too.

To keep things simple, each lesson is comprised of just 10 words. Their meanings and parts of speech will sometimes be included to help you determine which word works best in each fill-in-the-blank sentence. After the sentences, you will read a passage. These passages contain the 10 words from your vocabulary lesson. Reading these words in a narrative context will help you understand how these words are used, and how you can apply them yourself.

Stage III covers some of the most complex words in the English language. Much like Stage II, Stage III will provide you with a word list (plus their part of speech and meaning), fill-in-the-blank sentences, and a short passage. The words in Stage III were chosen by combing through SAT tests from the past few years and picking out the most common words used. However, even if you don't plan on taking the SAT's or ACT's, Stage III is still a vital part of becoming a fluent speaker and writer of English!
