The origins of breadsticks date back to 1679 when a baker named Brunero Antonio, from Turin, Italy, was faced with the task of developing a bread suitable for the sick child of a king. Through much trial and error, Mr. Antonio developed crisp and delicate fingers of bread that we recognize today as breadsticks. Our imported Alessi Breadsticks are made with the same grissini torinesi (Turin style) recipe of centuries ago. These Alessi Rosemary breadsticks are a wonderful table top addition. These are thin breadsticks with flecks of Rosemary throughout, providing a rich taste complimented with olive oil. We like to eat them after the main meal, often with cheese or more olive oil. I usually buy several of the boxes of 12 at a time and store them in the pantry. The packaging keeps them fresh for a very long time. I had some that were over a year old and were still crisp and delicious. Typically though a box only lasts a few months in our household, especially in the Winter when we spend more time around the kitchen table. I highly recommend these breadsticks as well as the plain thin ones, too.
