GrillPro 00150 Cast Iron Smoker Box, 5" H x 8" L x 1" D

I've been learning how to smoke pork ribs for a number of years now. It's been a long slow process. Using a home bbq I used water soaked big hickory chunks to smoke pork ribs. This worked somewhat well, but didn't approach ribs I experienced across the country. This item made ALL the difference in the world. Using this smoke box and water soaked hickory wood chips (instead of chunks) I was able to smoke pork ribs in a fraction of the time (two hours as opposed to 8 hours). Man, not only did I get the great hickory flavor, the ribs were moist nearly fall off the bone tender. Also I'm using a LOT less charcoal and hickory wood chunks. Consequence... it's a whole lot cheaper. There are other smoker boxes out there made of other materials, such as stainless steal. They don't perform and don't last. This cast iron beauty performs and will last as long as you want to use it. Just a note for all the Weber fans out there, I used a Weber grill to smoke and got excellent results with this smoker box. Just use less charcoal than you're used to. Place the coals to one side of the grill, place the smoke box on the coals. Place the meat on the opposite side of the grate. The whole secret to smoking is low and slow. Low temp and slow smoking. Tell you the truth, I never had any appeal for any pork products, with the exception of breakfast bacon. On a trip with my mother I got her some hickory smoked ribs at a pork rib smoked place. They smelled so good I tried one... I was hooked. Now with the help of this great item I'm able to produce hickory smoked ribs with all the flavor and economically. Can't recommend it enough.

We have a hickory tree that my husband likes to take twigs off of to use with the smoker box. Doing so adds another dimension of flavor compared to just cooking without this device.
