Friends-to-Lovers is not my favorite troupe but, OMGOODNESS! Showalter did such a great job with this book, I might be a new fan. Micah is a sword wielding, monster bashing, enemy chasing cinnamon roll who wants to keep his people safe from his enemies, Kaysar and Cookie, and to find someone who loves him for who he is. Viori is a screaming, harpyish, slightly unhinged woman who sings monsters to life, and the sister of Micah's deadliest enemy, Kaysar, who's heart was betrayed once before and she's not sure she wants to risk it again.. With so much going for them, what could possibly go wrong? How could they not fall in love? Such a fun and exciting and crazy and bloody and crazy (wait! I said that already...but it bears repeating), book. I love the madness that is Micah, Viori, Kaysar, and Cookie. Yes. Kaysar and Cookie feature heavily in this book...and they're still as crazy and bloodthirsty as ever. I advise reading their book, Heartless, before reading this one. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys enthralling, unhinged, and bloodthirsty dark fantasy romance. Many thanks to the author for an advance copy of this book.
