2023 American Silver Eagle MS-70 NGC – First Day of Issue
The initial Silver Eagle design, created in 1986, was not the first time it was used in circulation. Weinman's Walking Liberty design was unveiled in a period of time in which American coinage beauty was inadequate. The design was an instant hit with the public as a reminder of American ideologies and patriotism. The American Eagle coin's obverse design is Adolph A. Weinman's full-length figure of Liberty in full stride, surrounded in folds of the flag, with her right hand stretched out and branches of laurel and oak in her left.
In 2021, a new reverse design was revealed - bringing about much attention to the series due to it being the very first redesign in the series ever. U.S. Mint AIP Designer Emily Damstra developed the new design for the 35th anniversary year, which was then sculpted by Mint Medallic Artist Michael Gaudioso. The new Silver Eagle design depicts a single eagle coming in for a landing, carrying an oak branch as if to add it to a nest. The design is featured on the 2023 Silver Eagles as well to add to the well-known American Eagle legacy.
