Fan not up to par or as review stated

The remote does not work and the fan will not oscillate. Disappointed for the price of this fan and what it does not do. This was a gift to someone without a fan and to find that it does not work is sad. I am out of town and cannot get this to be returned, but can you help with this matter. We feel it was returned as there was not any packaging to uppack and again remote does not work.
