From a time honored tradition, Loden wool clothing originated centuries ago in the Alpine region of Austria, and was designed to keep the people of the high Alps warm and dry through the freezing cold, wet winters. The loosely woven thick yarns of the mountain sheep went through a wet finishing process using heat, tension and soap that shrinks and thickens the fabric by up to 66%. Some consider it the first performance fabric.
However, Loden today is not the Loden of centuries ago. By using better techniques and luxury fibers such as wool from Merino Sheep, the quality of the fabric has improved dramatically. Loden has become extremely popular due to the environmental benefits of it. Loden is an organic fabric in harmony with today’s lifestyle. The craftsmanship of our Loden contributes to a unique product that can last a lifetime, even being passed down to the next generation.
Superior loden: Made of fine merino wool which makes it extremely water and dirt repellent, provides excellent insulation, and has low-noise properties.
Leather: Our supple leather is a full-grain, purely vegetable tanned cowhide 3 - 5 mm thick with a natural surface. Natural scarring and slight differences in color creates a patina, which is characteristic of high-quality leather.
