The bed was packaged well. Each upholstered piece was covered in plastic. The bed is sturdy and well put together. I definitely got my money's worth. One thing to comment is the bed footings are well secured as compared to my Birch Lane bed and another expensive bed. The footings will not fall off when sweeping underneath the bed.
