I do not like that you are railroaded into be being a good guy. the whole hopeful future atmosphere is so lame. Any conflict between human factions is watered down to basically a name calling and schoolyard bullying. For a roleplaying game this game offers you an illusion of choice at best. Want to start the game as a wanted gangster or a space scoundrel from the fringes of society? You can absolutely do that. But people are going to talk to you like you're in a support group the whole game. Walk into a room with a scarred face and a dark past and you'll be greeted with "how are you? you matter!" and your reply can be dismissive at best. There is a pirate faction you can join but as far as pirates go, their behavior is more like Sid from Toy Story than Edward Teach. You backgrounds and traits offer various flavor texts that don't really alter much. As a matter of fact, none of your decisions matter and you are, and apologies for reusing this word, railroaded into a single conclusion. All romance options in the game come in the form of your coworkers who all share the same moral compass. There are a ton of named crew members you can recruit that have barebones back stories that would have made decent options but unfortunately they did not go in that direction. The exploration is fun, it not shallow. Once you fully survey a plant there is little to no reason to go back. You can build outposts that produce materials and other items - but using it to manufacture and sell is not practical since vendors have such small amounts of credits, it makes the whole experience tedious. Building ships is probably the most fun in the game, but there is the issue that you cannot directly control where ladders are placed always. Two habs that have staircases exist but it you have a two habs connected to the two story hab, you still get a ladder which makes the two story hab pointless. Leveling up is painfully slow unless you adjust the settings to make the game harder. It's overall a mediocre experience that I still do enjoy for what it is. I just wish there was more to it.

Wait and buy used

I splurged and purchased the ultimate edition. It was not worth the extra coin. Between the lackluster play through and high cost; I advise waiting for a used game to become available. A very clunky game (playing on PS5) . The control buttons are all over the map. Slow paced and no real training on how to play. Thank god for YouTube….
