  • Advanced Aspherical optical design: Four aspherical elements, including two advanced aspherical elements, effectively suppress aberrations, achieving an impressively high resolution that fully satisfies expectations for the G Lens brand. Spherical aberration is a slight misalignment of the light rays projected on the image plane, which is caused by differences in refraction at different points on conventional spherical lenses which degrade image quality in large-aperture lenses. Specially shaped "aspherical" elements in this lens restore the alignment of light rays at the image plane, maintaining high sharpness and contrast even at maximum aperture and ultra-wide angles. Well-designed aspherical elements can reduce the total number of elements required in the lens, thus reducing overall size and weight.
  • ED (Extra-low dispersion): Three ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements control chromatic aberration for excellent sharpness from image center to periphery. ED glass elements correct for axial chromatic aberration and chromatic aberration, which affect resolution and bokeh, while leaving precisely rendered edges with no fringing or unnatural coloration.
  • Nano AR Coating: Sony's original Nano AR Coating technology minimizes flare and ghosting by suppressing internal reflections and maintaining clarity, even in difficult outdoor lighting conditions, for a dynamic range that achieves lifelike detail and gradation with advanced camera sensors. This precisely defined regular nano-structure allows accurate light transmission, contributing to high-quality images, more so than with lenses that use coatings with an irregular nano-structure. The reflection suppression characteristic of the Nano AR Coating is superior to conventional anti-reflective coatings, providing a notable improvement in clarity, contrast, and overall image quality.
  • 9-blade Circular Aperture: When changing your aperture to defocus the background, light sources appear blurred. This 'bokeh' effect of the blurred background is enhanced with the 9-blade circular aperture used in this lens. Conventional aperture blades have flat sides creating unappealing, polygonal-shaped defocused points of light. lenses overcome this problem through a design that keeps the aperture almost perfectly circular from its wide-open setting to when it is closed by 2 stops. Smoother, more natural defocusing can be obtained as a result.
  • Class-leading close-up performance: Class-leading close-up performance with a minimum focusing distance of 14.9" and 0.31x maximum magnification is ideal for portraits, telephoto macro, and more. Contributing refinements include ED glass elements and a floating focus mechanism to control aberration that can be problematic in close-up applications.

I've been enjoying and finding this lens to be beyond any traditional zoom lens. Very adaptable to most situations with great results every time. This lens on my a7r lll is about as good as it get. Total money invested gives a return likely from gear more than twice the cost. Nit pickers will always find something from Any her no matter the cost. If you look for a great picture that most cameras don't deliver then get into this lens. The clarity and colors are fabulous. How that happens doesn't matter. It just does.

Great all around lens

I replaced my 24-70mm Zeiss for this and am very happy with it. It is heavier, larger, than the 24-70 but that is to be expected. I have 5 Sony FE lenses and this one is on my camera the most due to it's versatility and quality. I am no pro but am an avid hobbyist who uses Lightroom for post. The images I've gotten with this lens appear to be quite sharp across the frame at almost all focal lengths and maybe getting a little soft at the corners at 24mm. Overall, though, I find this lens to be better than the 24-70 but not by much. The 24-70 Zeiss lens is also very good and substantially less expensive but the extra zoom and IQ of this 24-105 makes it worth it to me. Highly recommended!

After using the lens for a month and shooting in a range of lighting conditions I am overall very pleased with this zoom. The lens features excellent contrast and sharpness, and is light and easy to handle. The zoom ring feels great and does not creep like other zooms I have bought in the past. The addition of the AF/MF and OSS switches on the lens are a welcomed feature that I hope Sony continues in future lenses. If you are on the fence about buying this lens over some of the cheaper alternatives, I would recommend going for it. You will most likely be just as pleased as I am.
