EliteShade Replacement Canopy for Round 7.5FT Patio Umbrellas with 6 Ribs (Canopy Only,Forest Green)

I received a 7.5 foot patio umbrella and an 80 pound water filled base weight with my incentivized reviews position. I thought it was nice and gave it a good review before a rain storm. Only then did I realize the fabric was so thin and porous that it would not shed rain, it only provides partial sun protection. After more research and reading many product reviews I understand that all these low priced umbrellas have a too thin fabric that barely cuts the sun while not shedding the rain. They may or may not provide adequate UV protection here in Florida. My chair and all the items on my patio table were soaked from the rain pushing right through the fabric. I bought a can of 3M water repellent spray and treated the umbrella with two coats but the pores are too big for the repellent to work. Raindrops break up and spray down through the fabric. Looks like only the most expensive umbrellas offer a tightly woven fabric that is rainproof. Being stubborn, I refused to give up on this and pondered on several ideas for a fix. I decided that only doubling the fabric would help to make up for its thinness without a large cash outlay. This replacement umbrella top is fairly inexpensive so I decided to use two covers together for layering. It is a darker shade of beige than the original but still has a loose weave. Together they cut more like 99% of the sunshine and I expect the rain that leaks through the first layer to drain out around the outside edges of the second layer. These replacements are somewhat stretchy so the doubling doesn't look that bad but the lower fabric layer sags when you crank out the umbrella fully with some tension because the ends of the arms have two pockets to fill out. Over all I'm satisfied with the double method as it is now darker and cooler than a single layer. The extra weight isn't that much of a load on the opening mechanism and it stays open just fine. The alternative to this is to buy a top end brand that costs four times as much. Now I can leave my chair cushions, radio, solar lantern and smoking materials outside during rain and the table does not get standing water on it. If there is no wind I can sit out there in the rain, kind of a cozy feeling actually. If you only deploy your umbrella when you are out on your patio in dry weather this fix is not needed.
