good for small kitty cats

First, make sure you have beams to support this and you can mark them accurately. The kit does come with drywall studs but I would not trust the weight of this shelf without attaching to beams within your wall. It is HEAVY. I bought two and they look very nice on our wall. The cat took to them eventually and enjoys laying on his perch above his minions. He is a large tabby, not fat, just long. He has just enough room to curl up comfortably but his tail won't fit to stay up curled around him. It may be iffy with more than 11 lbs of cat. So, if your cat is fat (it is hard to admit), or just large you may not want this. In my case I should have measured the cat while curled up.
