Sizing is very small

I bought a set for our family (husband, me, son and daughter) for an upcoming trip to Disney World. The shirts are cute and have black velvet on Mickey and Minnie. I was so happy to get coordinating shirts.The ladies and mens shirts run very small. I typically wear a Medium or Large in women's shirts. First I bought a large. It was snug and wouldn't be comfortable in Florida heat. I went back today and got a XLarge. It still fits tighter than I would expect. The coordinating shirts are cute if you can figure out the correct sizing.
