You won't regret picking this up

A line in the forward stuck out to me - that a good book is not just about someone else's story, but reveals stories within ourselves, as the reader. This book certainly does that. There are so many themes woven throughout this book - family roots, race and ethnicity, identity, mother-daughter relationships, just to name a few - anyone who reads this will find something to identify with because it comes from shared human experiences. Beautifully and tenderly written, Tasha's vulnerabilities gently nudge us to become vulnerable in examining ourselves and bring to the surface stories that may have been buried. Her story reminds us that all of us matter and all parts of us matter - even parts that have been broken or hidden, whether consciously or not. This book was a gift to read and one you won't regret picking up.

A Great, Tender, and Earnest Read

Written with tenderness and care, Tasha Jun's memoir mirrors this ache in me like very few writers have before. Jun expertly weaves together her faith and the story of her life, as well as her family members' lives, in a way that is earnest without being corny or preachy. I cried while listening to the audiobook and felt so deeply validated when she talked about her wariness of being fetishized when she was dating. This is definitely a book I'll hold close to my heart for many years.

A Moving and Thoughtful Memoir

From painful stories of exclusion to beautiful accounts of belonging, from the naming of deep grief and loss to the weaving together of threads of redemption and wholeness... Tasha Jun's book is filled with poetic story-telling and an invitation to listen not only to her story but our own as well. I'm grateful for this author's voice - it's gentle, wise, and fierce!
