I have an active, super curious 2-year-old cat. Day 1, I locked the wheel and let him investigate completely on his own. Day 2, I unlocked it and used the toy that comes with the wheel to entice him to step on it. Then I moved the toy up the wheel to get him use to the movement. Day 3, he got on the wheel and showed me that he knows how to make it work. He loves when I use the toy or a laser on the wheel so he can chase it. He also uses it to get my attention. This is a nice quality toy for an active, curious cat. There are a lot of pieces. Put them in alphabetical order then follow the directions. I made a couple of mistakes, but they were easily corrected.

The assembly process was torturous, but in the end it turned out good (after my husband fixed it for me). It's a nice looking wheel, but my cats won't use it on their own. I think that's a me problem and not a wheel problem. I wish the inside carpet thing was a smidge longer since there's a small gap you can see. It's nice that it's velcro though so I guess you can replace it if needed. One of my cats likes to scratch it like a cat scratcher -__-
