Recommended and useful.

For a medium-sized pot, the strap fits well, but large pots (such as full-sized crock pots) need quite a bit of stretching to secure the strap. The potential for liquids to leak is very dependent upon the seal of the lid with the pot, not these straps. The straps do help while transporting dishes or pots to keep the lid from dislodging altogether, but soups and stews can still leak if the lid doesn't already have a tight seal. For very large pots or casserole dishes, it's possible to link two straps together to fit and secure the lid. Over time these straps will probably lose their elasticity and may eventually break.
