I've been looking for a wood-and-metal tray to use as a flatware caddy - to put some small wine carafes on the tray and use them to hold silverware. I liked the appearance of the large tray for my project.
Every other retailer was selling this pair of trays for over $100, but Wal-Mart was $20 less, so I bought the set.
Upon receipt, the circular wood panel in the large tray popped out of the metal holder. The minimal amount of glue residue showed a poorly-done gluing job. And, strangely enough, the wood is inserted from the bottom up into a flanged-lip holder. The flange should be on the bottom, underneath the wood. The way this tray is constructed, there's always the risk that heavy items placed on top of the wood will break any glue seal and the wood circle will just fall out of the bottom.
I remedied that by gluing the wood circle into the metal holder, but then inserting a circular piece of 14" diameter, 1/8"thick clear plexiglass on top of the wood, whereby the plexiglass will be supported by the metal flange. No weight will be placed on the wood.
The tray now looks good and serves my purpose, but it was poorly constructed.
