Confused about the metal cap with the small hole i

I really like the color of my new kettle I'm just a little confused about the metal portion of the top of the kettle where you fill it with water. Is that metal portion with the small hole in it supposed to come out? I've never had a kettle like this so I'm confused.

Great kettle

I could not he more happy with this tea kettle. The whistle is loud enough that I can hear it in the back of the house when I am getting ready for work. The blue color is a deep blue, very stylish.
