God's Message

The story is one where I enjoyed getting to know the four main women and how they each faced a hurricane together. I thought the author did a good job of describing the hurricane and the damage it leaves behind. I have been through several and each one is different. The most devastating one for my town of Houston, Texas was Hurricane Harvey. In its path was destruction, lost lives, and a community that worked together. It was so inspiring to see people reaching out and lending a hand. This story has a similar feel to it and I loved how the author brings people together in a time of crisis. There was one statement that really stood out to me that was said by a character. They uttered the words, “I'm tired in my faith.” I stopped reading and really thought about those words. I do feel tired at times in my faith. Like the character, I wonder if I am doing enough to help others. Am I spending time with God or speeding through those moments in my daily life? What I realized was I was tired because my faith has been tested a lot in the last few months. What I needed was encouragement, His Word and to know that He has never left me. In this story we find characters that are looking for answers and before they realize it, a slip of paper finds them with words that they needed. How nice would it be if we left little notes for people to find? They could have scriptures on them or little snippets of words that talk about never giving up. We all wonder sometimes if we have made a difference in someone's life. We may never see the seeds that we planted but God will see the changed lives as we continue to share His word. The book has a wonderful cast of characters that see changes in their life through faith. Who knew that a woman who desired to be a writer would someday find her words spread throughout the states. Those pieces of paper she thought were not good enough, was just what was needed at the right time for those who were looking for answers. I loved the book and how the author illustrated that God has a plan for each of us. As we look for answers when we are struggling, there may be a message through someone we know or perhaps on a slip of paper that found it's way to us as God ordained it to be. I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

Good Story

Sabal Palms and the Southern Squall is written by Terry Overton. This is book one in the Sabal Palms series. I have read a few other books by this author, and have always liked them. The author did a great job with her descriptions of a hurricane. I live in a hurricane prone area, and the last one we dealt with was Hurricane Michael in 2018. The author did a great job tying it all together. We see a story of how lives are intertwined when it comes to supernatural disaster. Elaine, has lived in the small coastal town of Sabal Palms for a long time and takes the signs of an impending hurricane seriously. Elaine and a few of her friends have come together to take shelter from the storm. These women have weathered a lot throughout their lives. I really like the way we really got to know these women. You felt like when you read their intereaction and conversations that you were there. The characters were well written. The storyline is intriguing. I really felt like I was there by the author's descriptions. Perfect read to kick off Hurricane Season!. Thank you to the author, publisher and Celebrate Lit for allowing me to read a copy of this book, all thoughts are my own.
