it is exact fit, I noticed a few wires in the cable broken, so I ordered one to replace. For older cars, it is better to check this out. if the wire are good noting to do, but ia few wires are broken, better to change before full failure.

2001 Ford Explorer replacement hood release cable

The cable to open the hood works excellent, was getting tired of using pliers to pop the hood, dealership wanted an arm and a leg for this part, glad I found your site, will be using this for future parts.
