The cover for the heating pad is a really soft micro fleece. And it is the same on both sides. It has a hidden zipper. The actual teeth of the zipper are covered in fabric and it's smooth, and protected. The cover for the cord is really thick and without the spiral texture to it it wouldn't bend. But it is easy to bend because of that design. The thickness of the cord cover definitely offers some reassurance. The cord cover is tightly connected to the heating pad, the controlled mechanism and the two prong plug. So it doesn't shift around and can't be pushed down so that the inner cord is reachable. The heating pad on the inside is covered in a wipeable material. If I ever need to sanitize the pad, I can easily do so with a wet wipe. The controller has a great LED screen. It shows the temperature and the timer very clearly. When I turn it on, it's automatically at a default setting of 91°F and two hours. I am not worried if the cats step on the controller and this accidentally gets turned on since it's going to default to a low setting and at a very short amount of time. It heats up very quickly. I pulled this off of the front porch when it was delivered when it was 10°F outside. I sat on my lap and it heated up within a couple minutes. The size of the pad is actually ideal if you have two average size cats. We also have one very large cat and he has more than enough space to fully stretch out on this. And he loves to do that since he can stretch and not have to curl up to stay warm.
