Sorry to sound like an oxymoron with my review summary, but it's true. I definitely recommend everyone to see this documentary, but it is not for those faint of heart..but for ones who seek the truth & for everyone to know what it is. I am happy that the film summary depicts that it is not Tilikum's fault for what happened to him. There is actual footage & interviews with former trainers who sincerely tell the story that the entertainment industry does all they can to hide it. I myself did not realize until recently how Orcas are treated in captivity, things aren't what they seem. This "psychological thriller" as it is said to be actually goes into how these amazing creatures are punished for not complying with the training. By nature these whales are friendly in the wild, the movie even shows where a wild Orca & a dog almost touch noses off the side of a boat (which was very cute & sweet). The orcas are starved as punishment & at his first location, Tilikum was even put into a holding tank at night where he was unable to move around at all & the lights were out. What did these creatures do to deserve this treatment? They are social, even in the wild, no records of them ever being "killers" as their suedo name suggests. They might be large & frightening, but they are far from what they are made out to be. Orcas are far more advanced than people realize & communicate in ways that researchers have not been able to completely understand. They are so amazing & beautiful & this film shows what happens when the entertainment industry is bought into, it is not Tilikum's fault that he went against his own nature, humans have treated him in such a manner that it cruel & controversial. Captive Orcas also live a shorter life span then in captivity, they're normal lifespan is comparable to that of humans. They feel like humans do when separated from their young, they mourn just as we do if not more.
Please watch this film & see it for what it is, it should make you realize that the entertainment industry is not right in how they treat animals & there is no excuse for it. Would you want to be trapped in a bathtub for the rest of your life? Think about it…
