Beautiful cabinetry but unrealistic flame effect

This was my second recent Dimplex purchase from Walmart.com, as the clearance prices were really good. Based on what I paid, I'm still satisfied, but the flame effect on this fireplace was quite different from the Dimplex Lincoln, freestanding electric stove unit that I purchased (and which was my comparison unit.) The Lincoln stove has a very realistic flame effect. It also has the glowing embers which pulsate, adding to the overall effect. The Espresso finish fireplace also has the embers, but they just glow, and there is no pulse that I can detect. The "flames" are a totally different type (It's called an "Electralog"). The flames are much lighter, not as yellow, and it has more of a "light and shadow" effect overall. The other superior aspect to the stove unit is that it has a thermostat control on the stove, so it will shut off the heat at the range you set with the dial. (There is no specific temp setting, just a range.) The fireplace only has two manual switches, so it will keep heating until you shut it off on the unit, or you use the remote control to shut off the entire unit, which means the "flame" will also be shut off. Once again, the espresso finish cabinet and the black "marble" trim are very nice, and the fireplace looks great from a furniture standpoint, but the visual effect of the flame did not meet my expectations. Since the unit has a higher price than the stove, I had an expectation the flame would be at least as good as the stove, but I guess the higher price is attributable to the cost of the cabinetry. Overall.......go for the Lincoln stove. It's much easier to move around anyway.
