These barstools are very nice and seem sturdy. Assembly was not difficult at all for one person, but using a ratchet with a 5mm Allen wrench tip will make the job faster. I don't have much knowledge regarding leather, but the claim is genuine top leather. I looked up various tests to determine authentic leather and these chairs failed all the tests. The "leather" does not absorb a drop of water. The "grain" is fake, almost printed look. It does not smell like leather in the slightest, and when I inspected the underside of the chair, I looked at the leather which did not have the characteristics of true leather. There are a few other tests including bending the leather, pressing on it, and using a finger nail to dent it. Again, seems this is not leather. I still recommend these stools because they are nice, but I would never buy them for the price they are asking based on the leather they claim they are made with. I would also add that the stools are comfortable, but you will slide off if you don't put your feet up on the lower brace. The seat itself is padded, but shallow in horizontal depth. The underside of the stools are closed off by a zipper to hide the wood and inner workings of the seat. One of our zippers was sewn into the fabric underside so it needed to be cut loose in order to zip.
