The new design ideally combines 15 gel bladders, high density foam shell and a vinyl support base. The improved design decreases the migration of the gel layer, so patient won't bottom out and the convoluted, egg crate, foam, top layer provides vastly improved comfort.

Gel overlay
Had 2 for pt. I learned from a nurse that you have to roll the overlay to maintain the shape often and I learn the hard way that it is not waterproof . They said water resistance. I unzipped it one day by chance and it was full of mold. So it needs a water proof cover I would recommend to keep it sanitary.

Premium Guard Gel Overlay
I got item 14893 on 9/16/16. The next day the imprint of my body was still in the mattress. You are better off just buying a 4" egg crate mattress. Their is no difference and the cost is cheaper. My Gel overlay still has my imprint and it's been almost a month.

leasves permanent depressions, uncomfortable,
Hospice gave me this for hospital bed. felt great at first. But after a few days a deep butt-area depression formed. Reversed the overlay head to foot. Another "valley" appeared, first never went away. My weight is 180 , well below 500 lb specs.. Now overlay has.hills and valleys that are permanent uncomfortable and hinder egress from bed. .
