This is an extremely HEAVY shadow box! I was actually really quite surprised although I guess I just hadn't thought about it being so heavy. Other than that, it's really quite lovely. I was a little dismayed that the manufacturer/seller didn't think to include specific instructions on how to fill the shadow box with memorabilia--which in my case consists of military memorabilia from my deceased husband. There was a photo when I searched for shadow boxes in general. But, there are no instructions with the box that explain how to attach items to the backing to display. The place to display objects is attached directly to the back of the shadow box where it is hung on the wall and it's so thick that I'm unsure exactly what I'm supposed to do. The one thing that was absolutely clear was the placement of his burial flag. The rest is up in the air! I just semi-expected some sort of instructions that would suggest various placements for objects along with a "how to" in order to make your shadow box truly represent exactly what it's meant to represent. Other than this, the quality is definitely obvious! The inside of the shadowbox is lined with a beautiful navy blue velvet which makes a striking image against the flag that I've placed in there. I have no doubt that the medals and ribbons will look just as lovely when I do place them in there as well. There is also two raised areas that are highlighted with a gold foil behind them that showed medals placed on them in the photo online. The gold breaks up the solid blue of the background while enhancing the overall appearance of the shadow box--in my opinion. The box does come with a mounting guide and mounting hardware to assist it being placed level on the wall the very first time--there is absolutely no guess work involved. I really appreciate that. Other than that, the backing was a little contrary to remove when I wanted to open it for the flag placement. I was finally able to get it removed but it was beyond snug. Replacing the backing was doable but far more difficult that regular frames and other artwork. But, I really appreciate the fact that there are raised metal pieces that slide into a slot within the frame of the box to make sure everything stays in place. And, they assist with the opening of the frame as well. Really a very nice piece to memorialize someone dear to you and have to display in your home.
