Greek architect Rena Sakellaridou has built a monumental headquarters for a Greek shipowner that pays clever and playful homage to the sea horizon. Not far from the mythic seaport of Piraeus, near Athens, Sakellaridou's building's stark white marble curves bring to mind a futuristic ocean liner.
This oversized book gives space to Israeli architectural photographer Erieta Attali's photography to explore the natural light and shadows invited into a generous atrium and the flowing lines of the walls also sculpted in white marble.
Nominated for the Mies van der Rohe Prize, Sakellaridou's building turns a page in the architectural history of Athens, a city famous for both its ancient architecture and pioneering contemporary structures.
