No computer is required for setup of the tp-link router, instead you can set up this router with your smartphone using the Tether app which is available in the Apple or Google App Store. This router can also be installed using a laptop or desktop computer. The tp-link router can be used as your only router or it can be used to extend your existing network by hooking up this router to the router provided by your internet provider. The latter is the installation that I chose because the router provided by my ISP has a very limited range. The tp-link router has extended range so you can surf the net around your house with no drop outs. This router has 4 antennas that are 7.5" tall and each one moves completely left, right, front and back to ensure better reception. The router is very light with a low profile at only 1.26” high. It can hang on the wall or sit on a shelf; I tested it sitting on top of a book shelf. Setup was easy and automatic. I plugged it in and LEDs on the router showed all green in a few seconds. It was immediately as fast as a wired connection to my cable modem. The range of this router is much better than my four-year-old, $199 router. It solved the problem of my son not getting dependable WiFi to his bedroom and even works in my driveway! There is an app for your phone called the TP-Link Tether app. After downloading, it automatically finds the router and makes management really easy, including downloading firmware updates so you have the most updated software right out of the box. This router is really easy to manage, is super fast, and has excellent signal range.
