Turn signal success

Had turn signal switch replaced and all seems well except there is a feature I don't understand...when cruise control is on and I use right turn signal it disengages cruise control. Is this meant to happen or do I need mechanic to investigate. Only happens when indicating am turning right - could be useful safety measure introduced? I actually like it!
