These filters have a thin layer of carbon that catches pet dander and hair and pollen very well. If you have terrible allergies like me, this is a great filter to purchase. I live in a manufactured home and the filters here for the furnace need to be quite a bit narrower than standard in a conventionally built home. I had a terrible time finding any filter that fit my smaller space, and this is a perfect fit no cutting required, though I have had to cut this down one time for a different home and it was not difficult to do. The carbon is the separate unit from the plastic grid support. One fall I went to Walmart and couldn't find this particular filter as it was sold out, and I practically had a panic attack. Not found anything they catches this much debris and is easy to manage . Highly recommend this filter !

Works fine in reducing house dust and odor

This looks identical to the one sold at home depot, even down to the plastic clips and grill included. Cuts easily enough to fit. I use it with a filter frame in the air intake to the gas furnace, in addition to the furnace's main filter. It catches a lot of dust, easy to see white dust on black. Helps keep the main filter lasting longer, too. Good for the SoCal dust and wildfires.

I love that the filter can be trimmed to size. However, I'm bothered that both of my local Walmart stores stopped carrying these filters in-store. And oddly, Walmart sent them separately. One filter in each box; arriving on different days. The first arrived in a giant box with a ton of space above the filter. The other came in a slim box that fit the filter fine.
