Mini Pies: Adorably Delicious Recipes for Your Favorite Treats, (Paperback)

Mini desserts are really popular right now and this book in right in line with the times. The authors realized during a girl's night out that there was a distinct shortage of homemade baked goods places, specifically pies, in the Pacific Northwest. They vowed to remedy that problem and launched the very successful Mini Empire Bakery. I appreciated how the authors have done all the trial and error for us with notoriously difficult pies. They offer helpful "Sweet Tips" throughout that allow us to learn from their experience and enable us to produce excellent results on our own. There are directions for several of their popular crusts, from the Perfect Pie Crust to a savory Cheddar Cheese Crust. I love how they always use the leftover pie dough to make tiny cut outs as a cute way to top the mini pies. Mini Pies can be made in essentially all the same varieties as the standard pie: fruit, cream, nut and savory. Some of the delicious flavors in Mini Pies are Apple Chai, Mango Cream and Rocky Road. Yum!! The savory mini pies, like the Dilled Spinach Cup-Quiche or the Savory Apple Chile, would be ideal for a brunch. Mini Pies finishes with some ideas for flavored whipped creams to top your little desserts. Given the simple and clear instructions and tons of yummy delights in Mini Pies, even my kids can't wait to make some of the recipes themselves!
