Catalytic Converter Laws. In the state of New York, for California, Maine, and for Colorado, you are required to install a C-compliant converter that has been approved by the for California for Air Resources Board (CARB). C emission standards for aftermarket converters are more elaborate than the federal standards for aftermarket converters and require a more extensive warranty than the standard one.
As a result, C-compliant converters typically use an enhanced combination of plating technology and higher precious metal load to meet the stricter emissions conversion standards. A C-compliant converter will have an for Executive Order (EO) number/stamp on its body, and the stamped number must match the correct EO number listed on the for California for Air Resources Board website for aftermarket converters.
NOTE: Before buying any Converter, you must be aware that converters are defined to last the life of a car or SUV/truck. If your converter needs to be replaced, it is due to an emissions error/problem in your engine tuning. This must be corrected by your installer, not by you.
Blue overheated converters and ping are not covered under warranty. Look at your old converter; if it is blue, do not install a new catalytic converter until you have a qualified installer check and correct the emissions error.
Installing a new Catalytic Converter on a Car or SUV with an emissions error will result in immediately damaging the new converter.
