Determine stud distance to determine length of bar

The only negative thing is the 12" bar is too short to be screwed into the studs. The bars came with those white things you put into the wall when you can't use the studs. The discussion came up regarding how much weight will those screws hold? The friends that were installing them decided it would be best to install a 1x4 strip of wood so they would be in the studs, then they installed the bars on that. Unfortunately, I have uneven bars on facing walls and about 4 inches of wood. It looks funny, but I know they are sturdy. I recommend you by the bars that will fit the stud distance.
