Carl Hubbell was not a screwball, but his best pitch was. Offered is a Carl Hubbell single-signed baseball. The Hall of Fame master of the "reverse curve," Hubbell would twist his left wrist inward just as he released the pitch, making the screwball break in the opposite direction of a curveball. Hubbell played his entire Major League career, 1928-43, for the New York Giants, and after his playing career he remained in the employ of the Giants, even long after the team moved to San Francisco. Known both as "the Meal Ticket" and "King Carl," Hubbell has a lifetime record of 253-154, with a 2.98 ERA. He holds the Major League record for consecutive wins, set during 1936-37, with 24. The 9-time All-Star was a member of the 1933 New York Giants World Champions. Hubbell's most famous appearance came in the 1934 All-Star Game, when in an era of decidedly lower strikeout totals than today, he struck out five future Hall of Famers in a row: Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Jimmie Foxx, Al Simmons, and Joe Cronin.
