9/11 is day no one will ever forget. On this tragic day, four coordinated terrorist attacks were carried out by al-Qaeda, an Islamist extremist group. A total of 19 al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked four commercial airplanes, and deliberately crashed two of the planes into the World Trade Center, also known as the Twin Towers. The outcome of this terrorist attack caused both buildings to eventually collapse due to the damage. The third plane was crashed into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia. The fourth plane, Flight 93, was crashed into an empty field where passengers bravely fought back, quite possibly saving countless lives.
The Aftermath
In total, the attacks took the lives of 2,977 people from over 93 nations with 2,753 people in New York; 184 at the Pentagon; and 40 from Flight 93.
