1. 0Loosen the knobs at the search coil and rotate the coil angle until it is parallel with the ground. Keep the 7.4'' search coil parallel from the ground.
2. Adjust the search coil at an optimal distance of around 1/2 to 2 inches above the ground. Then just sweep the search coil in a side-to-side motion.

I bought this as a Christmas present for my two nephews and niece who are 2, 4, and 6 years old. It is perfect size for all 3 of them plus it's adjustable. They absolutely love it.
