Since 2015,Office ZHU has been working with the Department of Architecture of Shanghai Jiao Tong University on the project Cycling@Shanghai and has done two rounds of research on the use of bicycles in Shanghai. The results of this research are gathered here. Starting with a brief history, the book systematically explores cycle infrastructure planning through comparative studies on seven bike-friendly cities (Copenhagen, Paris, Vienna, Berlin, etc.) around the world. The author examines the cycling and metro systems, systematic planning, and infrastructure construction in those cities and, after analyzing the current cycling conditions in Shanghai, proposes specific urban planning strategies and highlights the benefits that cycling can bring to public spaces. Text in English and Chinese.
