I've been digging in gardens for close to 40 out of my 66 years and I didn't learn about hori hori knives until around five years ago! Now, a hori hori knife is the most essential tool I use in my garden, and the Perwin Hori Hori Knife is the best one I've ever used - with its FULL TANG construction, smooth, ergonomically finished wood handle, sharp bladed edge on one side, deeply serrated edge on the other side of the blade, coming together at a sharp point, I can dig out hard clay (that's where I live in Texas) or rocky dirt with no problems. The blade is cupped like a trowel, long, but not as wide as a trowel, so its great for separating plants then preparing a hole for the separated plant using the ruler that's etched into the metal blade, so the depth for planting can be measured accurately - awesome to use for planting bulbs or larger seeds in a garden bed or pot, too. The Perwin Hori Hori Knife is a strong, solid, yet handsome, and elegant garden tool - it would be the perfect gift for the gardeners that you love in your life! Even if they already own another hori knife - get them the Perwin Hori Hori Knife because they will put the old knife away as a spare. The Perwin Hori Hori Knife comes with a high quality leather sheath, and if your gardening loved one wears a belt for their pants, I'm betting they'll strap that Perwin Hori Knife on their belt and wear it around the house on Christmas Day - even if its snowing and the ground frozen ... I would bet that Perwin Hori Knife would break a hole in a frozen garden bed in Marlborough, Massachusetts (that where my daughter-in-law lives - and its real cold there now!). Gosh, I think I just came up with a Christmas gift for "Miss O" as I call her! Anyway, I digress, as usual ... my point is (and I do have one - LOL!) the Perwin Hori Hori Garden Knife is a strong, solid, yet elegant and essential gardening tool deserving of this five-star rating.
