this book is GREAT! i could not put it down. even though it was written by a ghostwriter it still seems as if L.J. Smith wrote it. I could not tell if someone else wrote it at all. I don't think people should judge the book just because it isn't really by L.J. Smith. it is so good. the book picks up right where the last one ended. i may be biased because i am obsessed with TVD the show & books but it really is a good book. i recommend people give it a chance. i just wish it had more Damon in it!

This is written by a ghostwriter

L.J. Smith will not be allowed to write anymore Vampire Diaries. It was taken from her and given to a ghostwriter. She has fought long and hard to prevent/reverse this decision, but Alloy (the book packaging company) will not budge. This was allowed to happen because of a “work for hire” clause in the original contract she signed in the ‘90s when she really didn't understand what it meant. Phantom was written by L.J. Smith, but the publishers told the ghostwriter to rewrite it. However, it will still say “Created by” L.J. Smith. I won't be buying it because a) I don't think it will be any good and b) I think it was very underhanded move by Alloy to do what they did. I've also emailed Alloy and sent a snail mail letter. Of course, everyone is free to decide for themselves what they will read. I just wanted to make sure everyone knew the facts.
