As an affordable option for an AC for a small room

I received the Arctic Wind 5,000 BTU 115 volt window air conditioner unit with mechanical controls. As an affordable option for an AC for a small room, it works fine. Not having a remote is a bit of an inconvenience, but not really that bad. As for performance of this air conditioner, I can say it works properly, cool's room, and is not overly loud, but again is a window unit they are always rather loud compared to a central unit. The manual controls have adjustable temperature ranging from 61°F to 88°F , 2 fan cooling speeds, and two fan only speeds. This unit is rated for a room of 150 square feet, has seven cooling levels, slide out washable filter and horizontal air flow control, so meaning it has two vents that you can directional aim slightly. This unit runs from a regular household outlet with 115 volts at 15 amps, it's energy rating is a combined 11 and unit should cost you approximately $44 per year to run as per stated on the energy guide sticker. Minimum size window is 14 and 1/2 inches tall by 23 1/2 wide those are the minimums. Maximum being 36 in. wide.

Very nice!

I got this air conditioner for an elderly lady. Her central heat/air went out and she can't afford to have it fixed. But I didn't want to have her suffer this 100 + degree heat. We put this in her house and she's loving it. She said it's keeping her small living room and bedroom cool enough. The remote control is helpful to her as well. It's hard for her to get up and down but with the remote she doesn't have to. Thanks Arctic!!

Fine for basic purposes in small room

This unit is very basic. I don't just mean that it doesn't have any bells and whistles. It is also designed for a small area. The sound isn't annoying per se but you probably don't want to have it on high when you are watching TV. I put the unit in my 10 x 11 bedroom window. The temperature decreased from 78.3 to 73.1 in one hour on the lower power with max cooling (#7 on the dial). It seems to work fine. If you just need something to keep you from melting in the summertime this will work fine in a smaller room. As for installation, it is not hard but the instructions are not super helpful.
