The Clifford Ball was the first of a series of seven now legendary weekend-long concert events hosted by Phish (the last was Coventry in 2004) and was named for the aviation pioneer. On each of the two show days, August 16-17, Phish performed three sets and an encore to a crowd of over 70,000 fans, making it that years biggest concert and temporarily making rural Plattsburgh the ninth largest city in New York state and Phish was the only band on the bill.
