I've written more Hot Pocket reviews than I have actual meals this month, so you can trust that I know my way around a frozen pocket. This chicken-bacon-ranch variety arrives in a box of four, each promising 10 grams of protein and a promise of convenience that borders on worship. The portion size is perfect for when you want a snack that feels like a meal but won't ruin your jeans. You can pop one in the air fryer, and it comes out with a golden crust that would make a crisping sleeve jealous-if such a thing existed. Apparently the company decided to save a few cents by omitting the sleeve, which I suspect is going straight into the shareholders' bonus pool. I can't say I'm mad; the pocket still manages to be crunchy on the outside and creamy on the inside without the extra packaging. The sodium level is, unsurprisingly, high enough to make a salty-dog cry with joy. It's the kind of sodium that could power a small city if you ate enough of them, but a single pocket is a reasonable dose of “I'll survive this night.” There is absolutely no strawberry flavor involved, which is a relief because I would have liked a hint of fruit in a ranch-bacon mash, but that would be weird. And, rest assured, there is not a single piece of broccoli hiding in the middle. If you were hoping for a covert vegetable surprise, you'll be disappointed, but the lack of green specks makes the eating experience less like chewing a lawn and more like enjoying a guilty pleasure. Overall, this thing is a solid snack for anyone who wants a quick protein boost, tolerable sodium, and a taste that screams “I'm too lazy to cook but still want something that feels indulgent.” The missing crisping sleeve is a minor mystery that I'll leave to the accountants, and the absence of strawberry and broccoli is a silent blessing. Five stars, because even without the sleeve, it still manages to deliver the crunch I crave.
