My old doormat was small and slippery with no non-slip backing, and it shed, making it not much good to trap dirt. I haven't had this long enough to attest to it's dirt-trapping qualities, but it is certainly much more attractive and doesn't move at all. Also, I love the large size, perfect for in front of the door leading to the garage.
