Composer Georg Frideric Handel's 1710 opera Agrippina recounts the tale of the titular society woman - Nero's mother - as she plots Tiberius Claudius's downfall in ancient Rome. Director Michael Hampe mounted the work onstage at the Rokokotheater Schwetzengen between May 1-4 1985; that production now appears in this home video release. Gunter von Kannen plays Claudio, Barbara Daniels is Agrippina, David Kuebler portrays Nero, and Janice Hall performs as Poppea. The London Baroque Players provide musical accompaniment for this two and a half hour production. ~ Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide
