I had a 5s iPhone that was dropped a lot during the five years that I used it until the battery swelled and I needed to replace the phone with a newer SE model. An Otterbox Defender Series protection case was purchased with that phone and it protected the phone to look like new when I finally replaced it. I had no hesitation to purchase another Defender Series to protect the new SE phone.
This case is a rugged and hefty case that comes with a plastic screen protector built in so that you don't have to buy one separately. It has fairly thick rubber and feels substantial in your hand, but doesn't add a lot of weight to the phone. The case is easy to open if dust gets under it to clean the phone (and the case itself), but that doesn't happen too often since the Defender case is very snug and protects the phone. The case buttons align perfectly to the iPhone buttons and the connection ports.
I used the included belt clip/stand that came with the old case and that plastic clip broke about a year into owning the phone while I was walking down an airport terminal dropping the phone to the hard tile floor, but the phone was well protected during the fall. Otterbox replaced that belt clip/stand for free and it again lasted about another year or so before the clip broke again. I really didn't need to use the clip anymore, but it does make a decent stand for the phone. The clip just has a weak point in the plastic that fatigues after some time of use. After five years the older case was suffering from some fatigue and stretch on the rubber, but that's a lot of use over time.
The new case is virtually the same as the older one with a few slight changes to accommodate the different style of the newer iPhone. The protection covers for the charging port and the sound switch have thicker rubber which is good. The case is thick enough to protect the camera lens on the back, cleans easily and has already protected the phone from a few drops. I have the black color just because it shows less damage marks or wear. I hope that it will last as long as the previous case and so far, after a month or two, it's been doing a great job. Nothing in the plastic or rubber appears to degrade the signal on the phone.
I definitely recommend this case if you are rough on your phone and want good protection.
