Used to bar the engine over for service procedures, installs to engage the flywheel teeth and rotate the engine using standard square drive hand tools. Engine Barring Tool Installation 1. Remove the two bolts holding the inspection cover to the flywheel housing. 2. Remove the pin from the engine barring tool (J–46392) . 3. Install the tool in the flywheel housing and secure with two bolts of sufficient length. Note: The inspection cover bolts are not long enough to install the engine barring tool. Longer ones will be needed. 4. As needed, insert the pin to lock the tool and block movement of the flywheel ring gear.
Remove the Engine Barring Tool (J–46392) as follows Notice: The engine barring tool must be removed from the timing case before starting the engine. Failure to do so could damage the flywheel ring gear. 1. Remove the two bolts and the barring tool from the flywheel housing. It is not necessary to remove the pin. 2. Engine Barring Tool Installation
