Repair Expandable Garden Hoses!

I use hose barbs to repair the self-coiling expandable garden hoses, the kind of hose with a stretchy rubber tube in a knit cloth sheath. I grab two large safety pins, and insert one safety pin on each side of the leak. Then I take a scissors and cut the hose at the leak. Then I take one end of the cut hose, reach in and grab the rubber tube, sliding the woven sheath back, and holding firmly to the rubber, remove the safety pin, and then retract the sheath even more. Then, holding the rubber firmly so it doesn't retract into the woven sheath, I cut the rubber hose where the safety pin made a hole. Then I slide a small hose clamp from an automotive store over the rubber hose, then insert the brass hose barb the full length of the barb, slide the hose clamp over the barb, work the woven material under the clamp, and then tighten the clamp securely. Then repeat the procedure for the other half of the hose. It is very important to secure the rubber hose with the safety pins, and hold the rubber hose firmly, because if you let go, the rubber hose will slink several feet back into the woven sheath! When I finish the repair, I wrap some duck tape around the repair so the hose clamps don't snag on limbs as you drag the hose around.
