I used to have this amazing pair of vintage black 100% cotton Levis, and I have been looking to find a similar pair for a long time now. Sadly, most black jeans sold by Levis today are a poly-blend, and the material is thin and stretchy—not the vintage black denim look I was going for.
The "wild bunch black" color of the Wedgie Fit jeans are exactly the color and material I was looking for! They feel a lot like the 100% cotton jeans, but that 1% elastane helps them maintain their shape and not get too stretched out—especially useful if you're going to be wearing them tight.
As far as fit—I'm 5'4 and 128 lbs. I have bigger hips and thighs and tiny waist. I ordered a 27, my usual size in Levis, and though they were comfy on the thighs, they were way too loose on the waist and had major gapping. I exchanged them for a 26 and they fit perfectly. They definitely aren't cropped on me, because I'm pretty short, but they look cute cuffed, and rolled all the way down, they just fit like full-length jeans (I expected this, as I usually buy a 28 inch inseam). One complaint about the legs: I wish they were a little more tapered at the ankle.
One other note on fit: I saw some reviews stating that these jeans aren't high waisted, but I disagree. For me, they hit right above the belly-button. I do have a relatively short torso/compact frame, though, and many ultra-high-waisted jeans go all the way up to my ribs.
I'm sad they don't make more cuts of jeans in this material--I'd love to buy the 501 skinnies in this colorway (right now they only offer it in a distressed fabric, which I'm not into), as they fit me a little better than the wedgie fit. Currently, the 501s have no good vintage-looking black, which is surprising, as it's Levi's' vintage line.
Overall: if you're looking for a non-distressed, vintage-looking pair of tapered black levis, these are the ones!
